Not getting enough sleep during last trimester of pregnancy?

Many women complain of lack of sleep during the last trimester of pregnancy. The lack of sleep can be due to various reasons from stress about the childbirth and also the added responsibility you will have in future, to just being uncomfortable due to the huge size of your belly.  Lack of sleep in some women may be because of heartburn and may make the lady sit up all night.

Heartburn in pregnancy could be because the muscles of te digestive system may be relaxed and the relaxation of the sphincter between your stomach and food pipe can push back the food mixed with acid into your food pipe. This can cause the typical heartburn. Having dinner a couple of hours before sleep and staying away from spicy food can help in relieving it. Sleep is a necessity for your body to protect not only itself but the baby growing inside. Sleep helps aid your immune system and provides the energy to grow and nourish the fetus. If you are not getting enough sleep, it can have negative effects on many aspects of your pregnancy.

What can you do sleep better?

- Get a massage before bed.

- Drink some hot tea.

- Try to relax by listening to music or try meditating

- Try to dim the lights of your bedroom

- Try limiting your TV time during sleeping hours.

Make use of the time you have now, for very soon, you will have your baby and then, even if you want to sleep, you may not be able to, as your little one may keep you awake.
