Her doctor explained to her - “Anjali, This is a very normal during pregnancy” The increased frequency of urination happens because of the increased hormone HCG during the first trimester of pregnancy. This hormone increases the blood supply to the kidneys by almost 40 to 50%. The extra blood flow to the kidneys makes your kidneys produce more urine.
Another reason for increased urination is also because of the pressure of the growing uterus on the urinary bladder. As you can see in the picture below, the urinary bladder is in front of the uterus. As the baby grows inside the uterus, it puts pressure on the bladder and thus the woman feels the urge to pass urine frequently.
Although, you may get tired of your frequent trips to the bathroom, do not restrict from drinking water. You should be drinking about 6 to 8 glasses of water everyday. If you drink less water, you could get dehydrated. To avoid night time visits to the bathroom, try to drink less water in the night.
Coffee, tea and other sugary beverages act like a mild diuretic and should be avoided.
