and at every 30 minutes. You could be in labour and your cervix is already dilated to 6 cms and could get dilated more with contractions. Your contractions are getting stronger and the frequency of contractions was also increasing.Every contraction is almost 1 min long and was coming at every 5 minutes. Now You are in the second stage of labour and this stage could last from 30 minutes to sometimes 2 hours. Now the baby’s head can be seen at the vaginal opening and Doctor asks You to push at every contraction which will help in the delivery of the baby. You will experience a lot of pain, especially during contractions. Be brave and breathe deep.This can reduce the pain a little. When the baby’s head is seen near the vaginal opening, Doctor gives a small cut at the opening. this is called episiotomy and is done to widen the vaginal opening and helps in delivery. This cut is stitched after delivery of the baby. The doctor is able to see the head of the baby coming out through the vaginal opening, once the head is out, the baby’s shoulder turns to one side and comes out followed by the other shoulder and then the entire body. And this way the baby enters for the first time into this world. The doctor gives the baby to You and congratulates you. You will be overwhelmed to see your baby for the first time. You may break down crying. This is obviously tears of joy. You have been waiting for this moment for the past nine months. You will be thrilled and elated to see your bundle of joy. Don’t forget to thank your Doctor. After the birth of the baby, the umbilical cord is cut and in the last stage of labour, the contractions begin again and this time the placenta comes out.
